Dirupi Valtellina Superiore d.o.c.g. Nebbiolo 100%.
The vineyards that give us Dirupi contain for the most part historic plants up to a century in age, and lie in the districts of Sondrio, Montagna in Valtellina and Poggiridenti, in the zones of Grumello, Inferno and Valtellina Superiore. They are planted on terraced land on the Rhaetian side of Valtellina facing south, at an altitude varying between 400 and 650
metres above sea level, on slopes between 30% and 70% and with the vines running up the hillside. The vines are raised à guyot. Since 2011, all the vines are pruned in line with the methods of the PREPARATORI D’UVA Simonit & Sirch: “soft prununig” The terrain is what remains of a moraine, with the soil prevalently sandy and with acidic reaction. In 2011, yields were 4000 kg per hectare (about 30 hectolitres of wine). Thegrape harvest, which is done manually, was started on the 5th and ended on the 29th of October, in small 8 kg
crates. The winemaking process includes the grape being removed from the stalks and crushed gently; fermentation takes place in steel vats with medium to long maceration of 15 to 35 days. In order to respect the right moment to pick the grapes in each small parcel of land, separate phases of winemaking take place on the basis of the different altitudes of
each vineyard. Ageing in 20-30 hectolitre French Allier oak barrels takes place for 18
months, with a small part in 225 litre barriques. The new wines from each vineyardcontinue their separate ways, ageing in different barrels until bottling. Only at this point are thay blended to make the most of the complementary nature of the wines from thedifferent heights above sea level, creating a perfectly balanced wine. Once in the bottle, the wine is aged for a further six months before sale. Number of bottles produced: 2011 vintage: 15.564 and 151 magnums 2004 vintage: FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION 1,161 bottles
