Pietra Nova
About
The PietraNova winery is located in Bolgheri, D.O.C., Tuscany, one of the most prestigious areas known for its important production of high-quality wines. The Tringali-Casanuova family is very closely linked to the agricultural history of the Castagneto Carducci area since the first half of the 14th century. In 1698 Guido Alberto Della Gherardesca assigned the estate “Casa al Piano” to the family.
Proof of this is the facade ornamental stone of the manor house on the label of Bolgheri Rosso. The estate’s Casa al Piano and Casino cover about 40 hectares, producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese. The PietraNova territory is sheltered from the winter winds by a chain of hills that runs parallel to the coast, while in the summer, it is covered by refreshing
winds that are generated to the west by the Tyrrhenian Sea. Between Bolgheri and Castagneto, facing the sea, at the foot of the hills, and in the plains of Castagneto, you will find the best vineyards. Between August and September, the refreshing winds and the moderate temperature range between day and night, in fact, cause slow and gradual grape maturation, helping in maintaining the correct acidity necessary for a well-balanced wine.
The commitment to viticulture and oenological production began in early 2002 with the move of Antonino Tringali-Casanuova to the vineyard. When he decided to move with his entire family from Milan to Castagneto Carducci, he also took back his own cultivation of the vineyards that, until then, had only been leased. He began to restructure the old vineyards and modernize the technical equipment. In this way, it was possible to harvest the fruit with more extractives from a growing area that had gained a lot of prestige in the period of only 20 years. Top-quality wines could thus be produced. The advantage of the microclimate in this zone is the proximity to the sea, which mitigates the summer heat with its breezes as well as the rigors of winter. This wind also provides a sky almost always free of clouds, with little rainfall and good exposure to the sun. All are factors that provide the vine with an environment conducive to its growth and the production of quality wines.
